Buoyed by festive sales, Retail, FMCG and Construction sectors posted maximum talent demand in Oct’21, overall talent demand saw 5% M-o-M gain

November 15, 2021, New Delhi: The ongoing festive phase and complete reopening of markets, retail centres and workspaces triggered the Retail, FMCG and Construction sectors to post maximum talent demand in Oct’21. These sectors had topped the talent demand indices in the same order in Sept’21 too. This indicates a strong sentiment at India Inc. to resume work and business as it was in the pre-COVID-19 era.

Oct’21 saw 5% M-o-M and 3% Y-o-Y gain in the overall talent demand, noted TimesJobs RecruiteX Oct’21 edition. TimesJobs RecruiteX is a monthly recruitment index that records the demand and supply of talent at India Inc.

The Retail sector saw 23% M-o-M growth in talent demand in Oct’21, followed by the FMCG/Consumer Durables sector that noted 19% improvement in demand. With most infra and construction projects now operational, the manpower-intensive Construction/Cement sector saw 6% increase in the monthly talent demand.

A city-wide analysis of talent demand showed that Delhi-NCR claimed the most talent demand growth (12%) in the study period, a stark improvement from its -18% mark in Sept’21. Similarly other metro cities such as Chennai (6%), Mumbai (5%) and Bengaluru (3%) too featured among the top gainers of talent demand in Oct’21. This trend emerged as most corporates reopened their workspaces and are strengthening their talent pool accordingly. Ahmedabad with 9% growth was the only Tier-II city to find a place in the top city-wide list.

Work experience-wise, senior professionals with more than 20 years of experience were most in demand in the review period with 11% growth in talent demand. This was followed by talent demand for freshers (professionals with less than 2 years of experience) with 7% increment.
