Retail, FMCG, BPO and BFSI recorded a double-digit growth in both M-o-M and Y-o-Y analysis of talent demand in Jul’21

Overall talent demand grew by 10% M-o-M and 21% Y-o-Y basis in Jul’21

Sector-wise: Retail, FMCG, BPO claimed most growth in M-o-M talent demand study; IT, BFSI and FMCG led the Y-o-Y talent demand growth charts

Functional-area wise: Accounting & Finance, BPO and Administration roles had highest M-o-M growth in Jul’21 talent demand

Location-wise: Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Mumbai were top three locations for M-o-M growth in talent demand

Work experience-wise: Freshers (professionals with less than 2 years of work experience) saw most growth in talent demand followed by people with 2-5 years of experience

New Delhi, August 17, 2021: An improving consumer sentiment propelled the consumer-led sectors Retail, FMCG, BPO and BFSI to post a double-digit growth in both M-o-M and Y-o-Y analysis of talent demand in Jul’21. The Retail sector recorded over 30% growth in M-o-M study of talent demand and noted 19% growth in Y-o-Y comparison and topped the sector-wise list at TimesJobs RecruiteX Jul’21 edition. TimesJobs RecruiteX is a monthly recruitment index that records the demand and supply of talent at India Inc.

This was followed by consecutive M-o-M growth noted in Consumer Durables/FMCG (29%), BPO (23%), BFSI (16%) respectively. The overall growth in M-o-M talent demand is also fuelled by an increase in Construction (3%), Manufacturing (3%) and IT/Telecom (2%) sectors respectively.

Sanjay Goyal, Business Head, TimesJobs and TechGig elaborated the findings of RecruiteX Jul’21 edition as, “TimesJobs’ talent demand index RecruiteX recorded a healthy growth in talent demand in Jul’21. The IT/Telecom sector has been posting a steady growth in talent demand in 2021, and noted the biggest jump of 35% in its Y-o-Y study in Jul’21.”

“In Jul’21, the consumer-led sectors as Retail, FMCG, BPO and BFSI posted a double-digit growth in both M-o-M and Y-o-Y analysis. This is based on the sequential unlock in different states. The Retail sector saw the highest growth of over 30% in M-o-M study in Jul’21 as shopping malls and retail outlets are resuming full time operations. With the festival season kicking in, talent demand will continue to rise in the consumer-led sectors in the coming months,” he added.

A review of functional-areas revealed that Accounting and Finance, Customer Services/ BPO and Administration were the top three most sought after profiles. Accounting and Finance saw over 30% growth in talent demand, followed closely by Customer Services/ BPO profile that noted 30% growth in the M-o-M study in Jul’21.

Location-wise, tier-II cities Ahmedabad and Vadodara both noted the maximum growth of 14% each in talent demand in Jul’21. Mumbai – despite being under the COVID-19 curbs – saw a growth of 9% in talent demand, and trailed at the third spot in the city-wise analysis. Chennai managed 6% growth and Delhi-NCR saw only 1% growth in the M-o-M study in Jul’21.

Work-experience wise, freshers (with 22% growth) were the most sought after group of professionals for talent demand. This was followed by 15% increase in the M-o-M demand for professionals with 2-5 years of work experience.
