TechGig Geek Goddess: A Grand Victory for Women in the Tech Industry

Women coders proved their mettle in a 14-Day engagement program to celebrate Women in Technology that established their emerging dominance in the Indian IT Space

March 7, 2016: What better way of celebrating International Women’s Day – than highlighting the intellectual prowess of professional working women in India Inc.? TechGig.com, on its own accord, facilitated the recognition of women coders and celebrated their contributions to the IT sector by organizing TechGig Geek Goddess: Celebrating the Code Divas/Women in Technology of the Indian IT Industry (TG3).

"While equality in the workplace is improving for women in general, the percentage of women in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers is stagnant. Diversity awareness and sensitization within the IT industry is one of our core focus areas at TechGig and we are developing new product initiatives around diversity, innovative hiring and employer branding. TechGig was our latest initiative in this quest. We congratulate all the winners and thank all the participating coders and companies for making TG3 such a resounding success.” says Vivek Madhukar, COO, TimesJobs.com.

The TG3 event was organized to coincide its culmination with the International Women’s Day celebrations. With a host of exciting events, rich content and challenging contests TG3 witnessed more that 1,80,000 people visit TG3 and over 15,000 women coders register for the events.

Top IT companies showcased their own female talent and attracted many others by hosting
Tech Webinars, Empowerment Sessions, Code Contests, Daily Activities, Fun-Trivia’s, Q&A sessions, videos, content etc.

Puja Mehra, VP, Sapient Global Markets says, “We have been extremely proud of what we have achieved for women leadership at Sapient and TG3 gave us the additional push to help take it to the next level. TG3’s tech webinars, AMA and empower sessions, for promoting our women in tech, helped us push our charter of making women’s voices count. I personally liked the coding contest a lot. It was very encouraging to see our leaders, encourage our women employees to participate and help them take out time from their project schedules to appear on TG3. Participation was overwhelming & having one of our women in the top 3 was like an icing on the cake.”

With over Rs. 4 Lakhs of cash prizes up for grabs, the event witnessed tremendous interest with top women coders competing against each other from across the country.

Janani Anbarasan from CISCO, who won Rs. 1.5 Lakhs for coming first in TG3 says, "Considering the limited exposure women have towards programming, this level of competition targets women who aspire to become good programmers. The strength of participation and the difficulty level – have inspired me, personally, to take up higher levels of challenges. My advice to other aspirants is – Never forget to put that continuous effort and attention your dreams need. They are worth it. I worked hard and feel honored and grateful to have won the inaugural TG3 event."

Rijutha N also from CISCO, came second; winning Rs. 1 Lakh says, "TG3 is a wonderful opportunity for working women to compete. It was a good break from the routine to test my skills.  The best thing about TG3 was the time limit, I was able to participate and also manage other office work."

Rashmi Kejriwal from Sapient came third winning Rs. 75,000 says, " I would like to recommend people to take time off from their expected deliverables and pursue their interest and enhance their expertise in coding as TG3 provides a great platform for the same with compilers in almost all languages."

TechGig Geek Goddess: Celebrating the Code Divas/Women in Technology of the Indian IT Industry is slated to be an annual event and will be back with a bang in February next year – please visit the website for details.
