New Delhi, June 8, 2021: It was work as usual at India Inc. amid the nation-wide ‘Corona lockdown’ in May’ 21 as talent demand grew by 6% M-o-M despite the lull outside. Five sectors – including Retail, FMCG, Infrastructure, Petrochemicals & IT/Telecom – posted a double digit M-o-M growth in talent demand; indicating that corporate India was raring to go even amid the tough COVID-19 situations. The Automobiles, Construction, Healthcare and Manufacturing sectors too noted single digit growth in Apr’21 v/s May’21 comparison of talent demand, reported TimesJobs RecruiteX. RecruiteX is a monthly recruitment index that records the demand and supply of talent at India Inc.
Most states had exempted e-commerce and take-away operations from the lockdown curbs along with ‘in-situ’ activities which propelled growth in Retail, FMCG, Infrastructure, Construction, Petrochemicals and Manufacturing sectors. IT/Telecom has been betting on ‘work-from-home’ for business continuity since Mar’20, hence its talent demand growth has been uninterrupted even amid the May’21 lockdown. Here’s how different industries fared in M-o-M analysis of talent demand in May’21:
Elaborating on the findings of RecruiteX May’21 edition, Sanjay Goyal, Business Head TimesJobs and TechGig said, “The COVID-19 lockdown measures in 2021 weren’t as stringent as the 2020 version. Most state governments allowed ‘in-situ’ activities to continue hence heavy duty sectors continued work as usual, unlike the 2020 lockdown curbs when everything had come to a complete halt. Retail saw over 30% growth, FMCG had 28%, Infrastructure clocked 21% gain, followed by Petrochemicals and IT/Telecom at 15% and 13% M-o-M growth respectively. With the unlock measures in progress and the COVID-19 infection cases in control, I’m hopeful that more businesses will re-open for work and talent demand graphs will take off further in June’21”.
