Northeast leads demand growth in September 2016: TimesJobs RecruiteX

Hiring grew by 22% in Meghalaya as north-eastern cities kept up the hiring momentum amid a dull hiring period, reports the latest TimesJobs.com RecruiteX.

October 6, 2016: As the major employment hubs encounter a slow hiring phase, north-eastern cities of India lead the talent demand scene during September 2016. Meghalaya and Manipur, in particular, posted significant rise in talent demand during the month.

“While there has been no dearth of quality professionals coming from north-east India, however employability within the region has been a tough challenge. With the government’s entrepreneurial promotion policies and other efforts in job creation, industries are overcoming these hurdles. TimesJobs data shows that currently IT-ITeS, consumer durables, FMCG and BFSI industries are primary drivers of this growth." says Nilanjan Roy, Head of Strategy, Times Business Solutions.

Hiring up in north-east states

North-eastern states posted a rise in demand, with Meghalaya witnessing a 22% rise in demand and Manipur posting a 9% rise during September 2016. This is the first time since January 2016 that these states have grown at this rate.

Among other states Orissa witnessed 13% rise in demand and Maharashtra also saw 9% rise in talent demand .

Demand for media professionals

Media, entertainment and journalism professionals reported 3% rise in demand in September 2016. There has been a significant surge in hiring for these professional since last month. Between August and September 2016, media professionals have posited an average 15% rise in demand. The demand for this function also soared in February by 20%.

  • Doctors, nurse, medical professionals saw stable hiring
  • IT, telecom professionals reported 6% drop in demand
  • Business management, consultants posted 20% drop in demand

Demand up for freshers

Professionals with less than 2 years of experience posted a rise of 2% in demand in September 2016. The category has reported a 4% rise in demand since May 2016. On the other hand experienced candidates, saw low demand during the month with professionals with 10-20 years of experience witnessing biggest drop (19%) in demand during September 2016.

  • Candidates with over 20 years of experience also witnessed 17% drop in demand
  • Candidates with 5-10 years of experience saw 6% drop in demand
  • Candidates with 2-5 years of experience saw a 8% drop in demand

Hiring up in legal sector

Legal and law sector witnessed a 7% rise in talent demand during September 2016. This sector has posted an average rise of 4% since June 2016, reported RecruiteX. Other key sectors of the India economy posted stable to negative hiring activity during the month.

  • IT/telecom sector posted 4% drop in demand
  • Retail and logistics sector posted 8% drop in talent demand
  • BFSI industry saw 7% drop in talent demand
