Hiring trends from July-December 2017
Recruitment data from the second half of 2017 shows that BFSI and healthcare sectors posting stable talent demand, indicating that the government’s Make in India, Digital India and Skill India initiatives have started paying off. Overall talent demand index during the July-December 2017 was also stable.

Similar to the trends in first half of 2017, sales specialisation such as corporate, retail, direct/ commission and channel sales were the focus areas during the latter half of 2017. Demand for logistics and supply chain management professionals was also high during this time.

Hiring also increased for core functions, especially engineering and technology profiles.

Organisations were also looking for skills in some of the traditional specialisations in the field of software, plant maintenance, production, manufacturing, design & development.

Metros ruled the hiring scene across experience categories and industries, during the period.

Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Kerala and some North-Eastern states also witnessed rise in talent demand during July-December 2017, though job share in these states was small.

Professionals with up to 2 years of experience were in demand during January 2018. Middle and senior-level professionals continued to dominate hiring in July-December 2017.

“The reason for a slowdown in hiring in latter half of 2017 could largely be attributed to the shift in business models as many organisations have started working on next generation technologies such as Cloud computing, Artificial Intelligence. However, it doesn’t imply that there are lesser jobs but there is demand for niche skill sets. Moreover, attracting new-age talent is a top priority this year, which has been made challenging with influx of tech-innovation,” said Ramathreya Krishnamurthi, Business Head TimesJobs and TechGig.
